Considered by many to be the “most beautiful city in Europe,” Prague is the capital of the Czech Republic. In conjunction with local church plants and the Czech Baseball Association, we will be running baseball clinics in the city. Our purpose is to partner with these churches in taking the light of Jesus Christ into a spiritually dark place.
This will be our second summer returning to Prague where we hope to help these churches build a bridge for the Gospel into their surrounding communities, helping them build relationships with families who get involved via the daily clinics. There will be opportunities to share the gospel message through our verbal and nonverbal testimonies during the clinics. In addition to teaching the fundamental skills of baseball, you will be able to share how a personal relationship with Jesus Christ impacts your life, including how you teach and play the game.
In addition to running baseball clinics, we have been asked to hold an all-sports clinic to teach kids how to play soccer, American football, ultimate frisbee, dodge ball, etc. These clinics will be much less intense but will allow us to reach a greater number of kids. Our daily schedule will include a 3-hour baseball clinic and 3-hour “all-sports” clinic. Thus, the baseball will be the core sport each day, but there is also a high degree of interest in learning these other sports. It is amazing how kids are drawn to sports anywhere! What an opportunity to share Christ in this way!
Although this trip is mainly a teaching trip, we hope to play some friendly exhibition games with local teams. It might include mixing up the teams, which is often a great way to build relationships. Again, we are working with the Czech Baseball Association.
We want to enable you to use the gifts and abilities God has given you in baseball to have an eternal impact on those in Prague. We believe this experience will deepen your faith and open your eyes to what God is doing in this particular part of the world.
Team training starts on Thursday, July 8, so you will need to be in Emmaus, PA by then. The team will be returning from the Czech Republic on Sunday, July 18.
