Closer to Morocco than to the Spanish mainland, the Canary Islands are officially a part of Spain. For the second straight summer, Push The Rock will be taking men’s and women’s basketball teams to serve alongside a local church plant on Tenerife, the largest of the Canary Islands. We will be running basketball clinics in three different communities as well as playing exhibition games in the evening. Our purpose is to partner with the church in taking the light of Jesus Christ into a spiritually dark place.
We are excited to come alongside this church and continue to build bridges for the Gospel into its surrounding communities. We will have opportunities to deepen relationships that were formed last summer as well as help them build relationships with new families who get involved via the daily clinics and evening games. There will be occasions to share the gospel message through our verbal and nonverbal testimonies during both the clinics and games. In addition to teaching the fundamental skills of basketball, you will be able to share how a personal relationship with Jesus Christ impacts your life, including how you teach and play the game.
We also want to enable you to use the gifts and abilities God has given you in basketball to have an eternal impact on those in Tenerife. You will be able to model how a personal relationship with Jesus Christ can positively impact and change every aspect of your life! We believe this experience will deepen your faith and open your eyes to what God is doing in this particular part of the world.
Team training starts on Thursday, June 24, so you will need to be in Emmaus, PA by then. The team will be returning from Spain on Sunday, July 11.
