This summer Push The Rock will be returning to Italy for the fifth time. We will be taking a men’s basketball team to serve alongside the “Il Faro” church (translated “the lighthouse”) located in Mestre, just outside of Venice. We will serve there for one week and then travel to Imola, near Bologna, where we will serve alongside another church plant during the second week. In both locations we will be running basketball clinics in the morning and afternoon and playing games in the evenings against the local teams. Our purpose in the ministry is to partner with these churches in taking the light of Jesus Christ into a spiritually dark place.
Italy is a country known for its deep roots in Catholicism. Less than 1% of the population is evangelical Christian. Our goal is to come alongside these churches and help them build relationships with families in their community through a ministry that shares Christ’s love with their kids. There will be opportunities to share the gospel message through our verbal and nonverbal testimonies during both the clinics and games. In addition to teaching the fundamental skills of basketball, you will be able to share how a personal relationship with Jesus Christ impacts your life, including how you teach and play the game. It is important that we continue to build on the strong foundation that has been laid over the past four years in Mestre as well as create new momentum and excitement with the church and community in Imola. The kids and parents alike are very excited about the return of Push The Rock to the Veneto and Bologna regions!
Another goal for this trip is to enable you to use the gifts and abilities God has given you in basketball to have an eternal impact in the lives of those in Italy. Not many people will ever have this opportunity. In doing so, we believe your faith will deepen as your eyes are opened a little more to the work God is doing around the world and how you can be a part of it.
Team training starts on Thursday, June 21, so you will need to be in Emmaus, PA by then. The team will be returning from Italy Sunday, July 8.
