Season Update

Club Championship Tournament
During the last weekend in April, Push the Rock Girls 14U Red team headed to Muncy, PA to participate in the Club Championships as our last tournament. We started the morning in pool play against club teams P3R West End and Totally Extreme. Because there were only three teams in our pool, we played each team twice in round robin. The Girls split matches with both teams and ended second in pool play at the end of the morning. We went on to compete in the Gold bracket in the afternoon for the playoffs. Our first opponent was club team Liberty Belles Red. We won the match in three exciting games (2-1)! Next, the girls played against York YMCA in the quarterfinals. Although the girls were able to make up a large deficient in both games, we lost the match 2-0 against York.

Overall the girls had a fantastic season. Each girl grew and improved from where she had come from at the beginning of the season. The team as a whole grew and bonded as a unit. It was fun to watch them be a dynamic force on the volleyball court! I am so proud of each and every one of the Push the Rock 14U Red Girls!!! Way to go Dynamite!
Pocono 14 Club Tournament
As a team gets ready to play, a player asked her coach, “Did Push the Rock beat the team we are playing?” As a coach you know your team has set the bar, and your players feel honored to be held in high esteem by other teams. Well Push the Rock 14 Red set the bar HIGH at the Pocono 14 Club Tournament on Sunday, April 11. The girls went UNDEFEATED (8-0) in pool play against club teams Infinity 14 White, Central Jersey VA 14 Red, Totally Xtreme 14U, and Marlton VBC 14-1. We had two exciting matches where in the first game of each match the girls were able to come back from a big deficit. We finished first place in pool play and went on to play High Line  C14 Black in the semi-finals. We lost to High Line in two games to finish the tournament 3rd overall. The girls played tremendous. They worked together as a team and had fun doing it! I was so very proud of them! Each of them has grown and improved in their volleyball skills. I am excited to see what our last tournament has in store for us!!

March Tournaments
The 14’s completed in three tournaments during the month of March. Most recently we competed in the ECV March 14’s Club Tournament in Collegeville and the LAVA 14’s Club Tournament in Lancaster. The girls competed against several clubs that we have seen before as well as a few new club teams. Some highlights were splitting matches against Infinity 14 White and Sparks 14 White. We are starting to come to a close in our season and are looking forward to our last two tournaments!
March 7 – IVA 14 Mixed, Finished 3rd in pool play
The girls completed in a mixed tournament in early March in Chalfont, PA. We won our first match (2-1) against Marlton VBC 14-1. The girls came out strong and did not let up! We lost our next two matches against Infinity 14 Blue and Infinity 13 Black ending the day 3rd in our pool. I am looking forward to our tournaments mid and late March. The girls are looking stronger and stronger. I am excited to see what they will be able to accomplish!

February 13-15 – Capitol Hill Classic, Finished 33rd
Over President’s Day weekend, the girls of the Push The Rock 14 Red traveled to Washington, DC to participate in the Capitol Hill Classic Volleyball Tournament. This was by far the biggest tournament that the girls had ever been too, and definitely one of my favorites! We started off the weekend playing Saturday morning against club teams MVSA B, Williamsburg 14 Black, and COT 14-1. We ended the morning 2 and 4 with a third place finish in our pool. The girls came ready to play against clubs MVSA and NVVA on Sunday afternoon. We ended the day 5 and 1 with a first place finish in pool. Our first playoff match on Monday was against NYC Juniors 14-1. We lost the first game and a very close second game (26-28). We ended the tournament 33rd out of 54 teams. The girls had a great weekend with lots of volleyball. Growth was very evident. The team is getting stronger and stronger with each tournament!

January Frosty 14 Club Tournament, Finished 3rd in pool play
On January 30 we traveled to King of Prussia to participate in Synergy’s January Frost Tournament. We lost a match to Marlton 14, split matches with HighLine Black and York YMCA Sparks, and won a match against Shockwave Fillies. Pool play ended with a three way tie between Shockwave Fillies, York YMCA Sparks, and Push the Rock 14 Red for second place. We lost in a one game match to Shockwave Fillies. The girls are continuing to play hard. We are looking forward to the Capitol Hill Classic in Washington, DC over President’s Day Weekend!

January 18 – MLK Classic, Bronze Finish
The MLK was a first tournament experience for most of the girls. It was fun to watch their faces as they took everything in! We were able to finish second in our pool on Saturday morning and third in our pool on Saturday evening. The girls came back ready to play hard Sunday morning allowing us to finish second in our pool placing us in the Bronze playoff bracket. I was very pleased with the girls and their level of play. I saw so many skills that we had specifically worked on in practice played out in our matches. I am looking forward to our upcoming tournaments and watching the girls strengthen their volleyball skills!

Sarah Gerhart will be entering her third year coaching with Push the Rock and will be coaching a 13’s team this year. In the past Sarah’s passion for volleyball started in the seventh grade where she played volleyball for six years at Upper Bucks Christian School in Sellersville, PA.

After graduating from Northland Baptist Bible College, with a degree in Elementary Education (’03), Sarah moved to Winter Garden, Florida to teach fifth grade at Calvary Christian School. While at Calvary, Sarah coached the Jr. High Girls Volleyball Team for three years. She built a program on the basics of the game and instilled a passion for play while striving for excellence. In her third year of coaching, the Lady Cougars headed to Clearwater, Florida to participate in the state championship.

In 2006, Sarah returned back to PA to coach at her alumnae UBCS. That year the Jr. High Lady Bucks had a record of 13-3, taking the ACCAC title for Jr. High Girls Volleyball.

Sarah wants each girl that plays for her to learn and push herself beyond what she may think she can do whether on the court or in life by challenging herself to be the best that she can be. Sarah is not only privileged to coach for Push the Rock but also to use her capacity to mentor young girls while being a example of Christ.

Sarah currently attends Calvary Church in Souderton, PA.
